8.3.15: Welcome to August

Happy Monday! August may feel like a light month for sports (because it is), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some things to check out… like this awesome video of Michael Jordan against Jimmy Butler in a game of hoops at a summer camp:

QUIPS FOR THIS WEEK

MLB

The  trade deadline came and went last week with a few big developments. Of note: Cole Hamels was traded to the Texas Rangers and Yoenis Cespedes went to the New York Mets.

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Kansas City Royals in wild fashion (5-2) yesterday in what appears to be an increasingly heated rivalry.

Also over the weekend, the  LA Dodgers swept the LA Angels 5-3 and the New York Mets swept the  Washington Nationals 5-2.

Other

In all things MMA, Ronda Rousey enhanced her legacy with a 34 second knockout win  on Saturday against Bethe Correia.

The NBA held their first game  in Africa over the weekend in Johannesburg, South Africa. Team World rallied to beat Team Africa in an exciting match-up. This was the NBA’s first venture on the continent, and its success could lead to many more events in the future.

Oh, and just a reminder that the NFL season will be here before you know it — NFL training camp is up and running!
