We hope you enjoyed your extended Labor Day weekend, and that Hurricane Hermine didn’t ruin your outdoor plans! The hurricane certainly didn’t ruin Serena’s plans – she scored her 308th win at the US Open this weekend:
QUIPS FOR THIS WEEK
After yesterday’s matches, we’re on to the quarter finals of the US Open. On the men’s singles side, #4 Rafael Nadal lost to #24 Louis Pouille, #1 Novak Djokovic won against Kyle Edmund, #3 Stan Wawrinka beat Illya Marchenko and #6 Kei Nishikori won against #21 Ivo Karlovic. #8 Dominic Thiem retired with a knee injury and so Juan Martín del Potro will proceed to the quarter finals. And, #2 Andy Murray won against #22 Grigor Dimitrov. On the women’s singles side, Carolyn Wozniacki won against #8 Madison Keys, #6 Venus Williams lost to #10 Karolina Pliskova, #5 Simona Halep won over #11 Carla Suarez-Navarro, #4 Agnieszka Radwanska lost against Ana Konjuh, and #1 Serena Williams became the winningest player in Grand Slam history after her 308th win over Yaroslava Shvedova.
And, the NFL regular season is here! Game 1 is Thursday the 8th and features the Carolina Panthers v. the Denver Broncos – remember, this is last February’s Super Bowl match-up, so it could get good! Last season, the Panthers (who were considered the underdogs) went 15-1 with the help of Cam Newton. Even though they lost 10-24 to the Broncos last year, they’re clearly no longer the underdogs.
