Hockey
The first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs has not disappointed! On Saturday, the New York Rangers tied up their series against the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-1 with a 4-2 win, the Washington Capitals pulled ahead to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, the Dallas Stars scored a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild to lead 2-0 and the San Jose Sharks won 2-1 over the Los Angeles Kings to lead 2-0. Last night, we watched the St. Louis Blues score a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks to lead the series 2-1. The Tampa Bay Lightning lost 0-2 to the Detroit Red Wings, but they’re still leading that series 2-1. The Florida Panthers lost in overtime to the New York Islanders 3-4 (the Islanders lead that series 2-1) and the Nashville Predators beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 to lead that series 2-0.
Soccer
In Champions League football, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick to seal the deal on Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg, Manchester City won 1-0 over Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid beat Barcelona 1-0 and Benfica drew 2-2 against Bayern Munich and lost 2-3 on aggregate. This means that, moving forward into the semifinals, Manchester City will take their first trip to the final four to play ten-time European Cup winning Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid will take on Bayern Munich.
The Europa League semifinals are also all set after games on Thursday came to an end. Liverpool scored 3 times in the last 25 minutes of play to knock out Borussia Dortmund, and now we’ll see them play Villareal and Sevilla play Shakhtar Donetsk in the semifinals.
On Saturday, #5 team Manchester United beat Aston Villa 1-0 and #3 team Manchester City won 3-0 over Chelsea after a hat trick from striker Sergio Aguero. Aguero is now tied for 2nd place with Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy with 21 goals this Premier League season. On Sunday, #1 Leicester City drew 2-2 against West Ham United and Crystal Palace drew 1-1 against #4 Arsenal to prevent them from moving back into the 3rd place position in the league. Today, top scorer Harry Kane and his #2 Tottenham Hotspur team travels to Stoke City for the chance to move 5 points behind Leicester.

Leading Lady
When Roberta Gibb broke the gender barrier at the Boston Marathon
In 1966, she was told she wasn’t allowed to run because she was a woman. She snuck in and ran anyways, and finished ahead of 2/3 of the male runners with a time of 3 hours, 21 minutes and 40 seconds. Today, she is the grand marshal of this year’s race.
