The Monday after the Super Bowl is far from the most productive Monday. In fact, “according to a 2008 report, over 1.5 million workers will call in sick the day after the Super Bowl, and millions more will be late.” So, this morning we’ll give you some fast news about last night’s game, in the hopes that it’ll jump-start your day! Let’s start with some video highlights:
THE SUPER BOWL
Super Bowl 50: Denver Broncos v. Carolina Panthers
The game we waited so long for, Super Bowl 50, came to a close on Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in front of approximately 70,000 people, but how did it happen?
- Peyton Manning (Broncos QB): He’s the oldest starting quarterback in Super Bowl history at age 39. This was Peyton’s second Super Bowl win (his first was with the Indianapolis Colts in 2006), and it is not confirmed yet whether or not he will end his 18-year career with this win.
- Von Miller (Broncos linebacker): Your Super Bowl 50 MVP! Tonight, Von Miller had 2 1/2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 6 total tackles. He helped the Broncos score their first touchdown in the first quarter of the game with his strip-sack of Panthers’ Cam Newton, and he set up the second TD. He’s the 10th defensive Super Bowl MVP – only two other linebackers in history have received this honor.
- Cam Newton (Panthers QB): Cam Newton was expected to make waves tonight, as the Panthers had the best offense going into the game. The Panthers had only lost one previous game this season (until last night), and were riding high. Prior to last night, he was responsible for approximately 80% of the Panthers’ offensive scores.
Even if Peyton Manning wasn’t playing at the tip-top of his game, he was playing on a good football team. And, even though Carolina had the league’s top offense this year, the Broncos’ top defense won out.
