5.18.15: The first two jewels on the crown

Top of the Morning! Let’s start things off with a highlight from this weekend’s Preakness Stakes — where American Pharoah won the race. If he wins at Belmont Stakes on June 6th, he’ll be the 11th horse to win the Triple Crown! Can he do it?

QUIPS FOR THIS WEEK

NBA

And just like that, it’s the conference finals. How did we get here? Out West, the Golden State Warriors closed out the series last week  against the Memphis Grizzlies, while the Houston Rockets had an incredible comeback in Game 6 and clinched a dominating victory against the LA Clippers on Sunday afternoon.

In the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers overcame major injuries to defeat the Chicago Bulls, while the Atlanta Hawks beat the Washington Wizards in 7 games to win the series.

What’s next?  The Golden State Warriors play the Houston Rockets, and the Cleveland Cavaliers play the Atlanta Hawks. Get ready, games kick off this week!

NHL

The Anaheim Ducks looked mighty impressive in their Sunday night win against the Chicago Blackhawks — as in 4-1. Let’s see what happens in Game 2, but Game 1 was all Ducks, who are now 9-1 in the playoffs.

Canada is back on top — of the world championships,  that is — after defeating Russia for the gold medal on Sunday.

This week is full of more hockey, and tonight is Game 2 of the Tampa Bay Lightning and NY Rangers series that kicked off on Saturday. Rangers are currently up 1-o.

MLB

Josh Hamilton is expected to return to the lineup next week for the Texas Rangers. It’s his first game back in the Majors since heading back to Texas.

The Miami Marlins fired Mike Redmond on Sunday night. The Marlins will now look for a new manager — their 6th one in the last six seasons.

It was almost a non-hitter… until it wasn’t for Shelby Miller of the Atlanta Braves. Miller had an impressive day despite losing the no-hitter with one out remaining in the 9th.
